We love traditional theater, but we want to create new traditions.

So we throw down a whole new school of performance:

- A fresh voice

- Radical subject matter

- A complete 180 on movement and space

- Cutting comedy that unites our performers and our audiences as one

What you’ll experience spending an evening with one of our shows won’t look or feel like any theater you’ve seen before, but you’re still going to love it. Maybe even a little more.

Drawing from our experiences in theater, stand up comedy, slam poetry, television, education, graphic novels and hip-hop, we have over a decade of performance background that we’ve uprooted and redirected to redefine the live stage experience…and audiences are definitely into it!

Topical… Timely… Provocative

We’re presenting dangerously compelling original works of populist theater with enough laughs to ease the sting of our social commentary—while bringing divergent audiences to a much needed point of convergence.

Speak Theater Arts started as a conscious decision to give voice to performers of colors and types that didn’t have the options they needed or wanted. But it quickly became a form, a new benchmark, a rush of comedy and drama that leaves our audiences breathless—in all the best ways.

With our first production, the controversial and critically acclaimed N*W*C: The Race Show, the company was able to bring out existing and—to the surprise of the theater community—new audiences in droves. And those audiences keep coming back to our fast paced, in-your-face, interdisciplinary performances. And they don’t come alone. They bring friends and families creating what the Los Angeles Times has called, “A cult phenomenon.”

The New Tradition

Speak Theater Arts consists of writer/performers Rafael Agustin, Allan Axibal, Miles Gregley, and writer/producer/directors Liesel Reinhart and Steven T. Seagle. Previous original theatrical works by the individual company artists include The Last American Bar (Agustin); Guernica and BUILD (Seagle); and Black and Word (Reinhart). Seagle is also an accomplished writer of graphic novels, including the highly acclaimed DC Comics/Vertigo release …it's a bird.

Speak Theater Arts is currently developing television and film adaptations of N*W*C: The Race Show.

Two new original stage productions will premiere from Speak Theater Arts in 2006.
